Favorite classes
Has you saw in the previous article, we had several classes:
- Business Law
- Private Equity
- Social Entrepreneurship
- New Product Development
- Entrepreneurial Implementation
- Entrepreneurial Practicum
As general point of view, and coming from Europe, this chance to have classes with American teachers let me realized that the way of teaching is completely different from anywhere else. Even if you will not see a huge difference compared to France they ask you for example to come prepare to class, to read the course for the next session and do you homework in advance. Thanks to this method, the class are relevant and not boring as we can have a real discussion on what we learn on our own, share our point of views and ask questions if we missunderstood a particular topic.
Very efficient way to teach
However, as all of us have preferences I found 3 classes particularly interesting:
1.The first one was Social Entrepreneurship with Professor Chowdhury.
We had the opportunity to work on many case study and discovered how the combination of social and entrepreneurial goal are sometimes critical. Where are the boarders between the social and entrepreneurial aspect of a business? Should it obviously be a non profit organization that focus on social? (Answer: NO)!!
Professor Chowdhury perfectly knows what he is talking about thanks to his previous professional experiences, in many of those organizations we've talked about. He is passionate and is able to transmit it to you easily! If you are interested in the Social Entrepreneurship, I recommend you to buy his book.
Also, this is where we started to talk about the fact that people with limited resources are the one that are innovative, creative and more entrepreneurs on a daily life basis.
2. The second one was New Product Development with Professor Ray.
I liked both, the topic and the incredible energy of our Professor! She is dedicated and passionated about teaching and trying everything to create you envy to learn. Moreover, the class was driven in a very practical way, which means that all we discovered will be without any doubt, useful for our future professional career. She knows how to create the link between our student life and our ambition and she pushed us at a maximum to be as competitive as possible thanks to many different tools and blogs for data & statistics analysis such a Tableau (you can try it for free as long as you are a student!).
3. The third one was Entrepreneurial Implementation with Professor Bachenheimer.
This topic was very exciting and as the New Product Development class, the practical and useful aspects of this class were amazing! As a team, we had to conduct a project in New-York City and we started to be pro-active! We went out and talked to people with the aim to discover the problem people were facing in a particular industry and define our solution in accordance, to solve this specific need. It is the first time we have been asked to go out and talk to people outside from our class and outside from our confort zone (which is obviously what are doing all the entrepreneurs every single day to run their business).
In addition, Professor Bachenheimer gave us the chance to listen to many guest speakers & to visit different organizations in NYC. Here is the webpage dedicated to this class!
I would like to thank all of our incredible Professors that participated to this adventure with us for the first time
